PB ReInitlizations.
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:27 AM EST

For those getting the boot...one tip is to manually install the client using this link. Another tip, which seemed to work for me was to add the PB servers to my hosts file. Click here and read down. You can just add these to your hosts file:

216.40.250.82 Q3A1.EVENBALANCE.COM
216.40.250.82 Q3A2.EVENBALANCE.COM

Weekend update.
Posted by Time2Die@ 5:48 PM EDT

Jester has a freezetag (FT) server that's pretty popular and KI plays on it to warmup, relax, and have fun. LOD is having a FT tourney and we're thinking of playing. Should be a lot of fun, you can check out there page here.

CTFX2 is going well as is in the final weeks as the tourney wraps up. Hope to have the All-star voting rules setup by tomorrow and out so clans can go ahead and get their players in for voting.

I got a PC upgrade from an AMD 1.4 to a P4 2.4. I spend a little extra for the DDR400 but the board is having troubles running for more than 30 minutes but I think a fix is coming. At any rate my benchmarks went up from around 285 on demo001.dm3 to about 440-480 depending if I'm at DDR333 or DDR400. Well worth the upgrade. That's using a GF4 4400 and a gig of RAM. I got all the RAM because with XP and dev work I tend to use a large amount.

OGL vs EoD for #1.
Posted by Time2Die@ 12:37 AM EDT

After some just horrible luck with OGL and challenging clans we were able to challenge EoD for the #1 spot. The first map was EoD's pick of w7 where they were able to best us 3-0. The second map was our pick of cp9, which we were able to win 6-0. For the tie-breaker we had wnoise to deal with but the gods were kind and we were able to win 6-1 to take the match and the #1 spot. GG EoD! Screenshots: Game1 - Game2 - Game3

KI page.
Posted by Time2Die@ 4:52 PM EDT

Though you can't really tell it...I have completely redone the KI members page with a handy dandy Database backend for easy organization and administration. The "Matches and Schedule" database is next which will involve the huge task of entering all the matches data (6 months or more) that is missing. After that is done it will be 10x easier updating the site look and feel.

One thing worth noting is I have looked up everyone currently on the active/inactive list's join date and have that listed on their members page. I will also be compiling a "Former KI" link with all the old bio's I have from members past dating all the way back to our Quakeworld days.

Dr. Strangelove...

...or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

While researching on the PB forums a fix for the crazy-ass system lag I kept getting when PB was processing I came across this life saver post.

Basically the jest of it is setting “PB_SLEEP” to 500 and then doing a “PB_WRITECFG” so that it writes the changes to your PB config file. Here’s what the Client documentation says about PB_SLEEP:

PB_Sleep [Period] : Holds the period of time (milliseconds) that PunkBuster "sleeps" between processing cycles; the default is 60; lower numbers will cause PunkBuster to process events more times each second which also has the effect of increasing the bandwidth used by PunkBuster; Players with a modem connection will probably want to set this as high as possible.

I tried this on 3 servers for about 5-10 minutes a piece with no lag. HURRAY!

OGL sk match 10/3/02
Posted by Tranz@ 4:36 PM EDT

Thursday, sk challenged KI for rung #3 in OGL. The two maps played were cp9 and w7. Respect and myself took care of defense, and DC and N8 rocked the house on O. The final score after 20 minutes was 7-0 KI. The second map (W7) started out close. The score was low until about the half way mark. Our guys got a few out, and sk capped on us twice. The final score for this map was 5-2 KI. GGz sk!
