Knights of Ni!
Posted by Time2Die@ 11:17 PM EDT

Played 2 close games against Ni tonight to defend our #1 spot on OGL. After a lengthy warmup (30min) due to Ni misc issues (reboot/late player/sound issues) we got started. Game one was our pick and we started out strong and pulled ahead 1-0 early but Ni pushed back and made several inroads to our flag and got a cap to tie it. After a 24 minute overtime and a server that went to shit connection wise N8 brought home the bacon and the winning cap at the 24 minute mark. For q3w7, Ni's pick, we switched servers to end the PL and ping madness that WDC had become during our first map. We again started out strong and got the first cap only to have Ni tie it back up 1-1. After an even LONGER overtime and some tough heavy Ni defense blaze brought the flag back to cap at the 28 minute mark. Great match and good job to both teams: Game1 - Game2

We're #1 in OGL again due to Eradicate forfieting to us after they secured the #1 spot from a forfiet win over Md. CTFx is starting up soon, a tourney that bofh and I are involved in making happen as well as many others. You can check out the page here: http://www.ctfx.org We also have a OGL match this Wednesday.

Penny-arcade...funny? You be the Judge!
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:40 AM EDT

I have had a running "discussion" with smeg that Penny-arcade is indeed a funny cartoon. Of late this has been a tough thing to do because even to me lately they haven't been. So I have dug through the archives for some of their funnier moments to restore my faith that YES THEY DO have the power to be fun....even though as of late they're not (to me atleast).

Stay up...play all night...YEA!
Posted by Time2Die@ 2:11 PM EDT

Here's a story about a drug that allows you to stay up all the time without the need of sleep...really interesting. I for see this being the "geek recreational drug of choice". There's been more than one time I needed to stay up to do stuff and was too tired to go on.

GDI OGL Match.
Posted by Time2Die@ 7:20 PM EDT

We successfully defended our #2 spot on OGL from GDI. Server picking wasn't too hard...waiting 30 minutes for pibb to show up was a little trying but things went smoothly after that. We played q3wctf1 as our map pick. It was like old times with us dominating the middle most of the game. We ended up winning 3-0. GDI's map pick was q3ctf2, which was what we played for our last OGL meeting. This time the out come was a little different with us winning 2-0 to take the game and the match. Oddly enough Tranz mistakenly called a timeout and I got this screenshot. Here's the screenshots of the game: Game1 - Game2

Cloud9 secrets reveal!
Posted by Time2Die@ 8:37 PM EDT

If you were wondering whether Cloud 9 was an alias clan or a new up and coming clan, the answer would be yes. Please feel free to check out their page as they recant play by play a couple of scrims we had with them like they were matches. Still can't figure out who they are...or probably shortly who they were: http://www.oncloudnine.net

Congratulations!

IP 62.143.32.79, you have been banned from /files for being a dumbass and using "netants" to suck down the contents. Normally this wouldn't be a problem except that there's 5 instances of it running that is saturating the server with requests. You've been judged!

G2-3 History page posted.
Posted by Time2Die@ 9:37 AM EDT

Finished working on the Gamers' Gauntlet III history page last night. Here's the link: http://www.gamersgauntlet.com/history/g2-3/

Looking to the future I can predict that the g2 staff is shifting gears from trying to hold 3-4 parties a year to doing 2. Our next party will be around the Sept/Oct time frame and we're shooting on having registration open 3-4 months before the event for proper promotion. With that extra time we're also going to shoot for a bigger party than we've had in a while with our target being 120 or more depending on the space we secure. Let me clear that last point up because we've had a few parties that had a possible max of 120 and didn't fill more than around 80. We're going to have 120 people signed up and paid. From the survey feedback we got back it seems clear that people aren't as concerned about price as they are size and length. So look for an announcement in May for Gamers' Gauntlet IV!

Friday.
Posted by Time2Die@ 2:18 PM EDT

Looks as though that crappy Bill I mentioned a couple weeks ago that was making it's way around DC has been struck down. Check out the details here.

Ever wonder what hardware runs a website? HardOCP has an article on their upcoming hardware upgrades here: http://www.hardocp.com/articles/bts.html In similar news I will be replacing the Motherboard/CPU in this webserver. Upgrading from a P2 550 to a P3 dual 933 board and chip(s). An increase in web and email traffic from the other websites and domains has warranted this upgrade. The KI site alone averages about 200MB's of web traffic a week. Crazy!

Sunday's OGL Match.
Posted by Time2Die@ 11:18 AM EDT

Had our match against Quakers From Hell (qfh) Sunday night. One of their members stated around 9-9:15 that they wanted to start earlier than the 10pm start time and would we have a problem with that. Hell no...bring it on! So we got a server and were warming up around 9:30 only to find out that they wanted to wait for one particular member that was on yet. We ended up waiting another 40 minutes for a no show. That was the low point of the match. Going old school, we fielded N8_Dawg, lukin, pro, and Time2Die for our pick of q3wctf1. After a slow start we cooked up a 6-0 score to take the win even with qfh's good middle and powerup efforts. For q3wcp6 we switch Time2Die with Bofh and won 3-1 with some solid KI middle and powerup control. Good game all around! Game1 - Game2

G2 == ALL DEE!!!
Posted by Time2Die@ 11:43 AM EDT

Going to have a more detailed wrap up later...but I'm HUNGRY! So here's a little mini update...We competed this weekend at G2 with 2 teams and when the dust settled we came in first for the CTF tourney. Some great competition from H3's 2 teams, VHC, a pickup team and the 2 KI teams. In for KI was Blaze, Bofh, jargirl, lukin, lunk, N8_Dawg, pro, Time2Die, and Tranz. Previous KI alumni smeg, gore, and Aetius were also in attendence. I'll post a wrap up later today or tomorrow with some pictures, ss's, and demos.

Future of Q3 Servers.
Posted by Time2Die@ 11:34 AM EST

As most of you know, RtCW is running on the Quake3 engine. id loves this game...they really do. Xian over at id is working with punkbuster to add some really cool things on top of the ability to start and run a server without actually having the Retail Game Media. This means no more 800meg RtCW server directories...more like 30meg. Hopefully this will propagate to Q3 at some point soon. I would assume that the server would actually run more efficient allowing us to pile more servers on current hardware. Here's the link: http://underworld.idsoftware.com/wolf/

And here's a link to their cool server stats!: Click Here!

Moving On.
Posted by Time2Die@ 11:38 AM EST

With CAL3 cancelled and G2 coming up I thought I'd go ahead and break the news: KI is making a change. It shouldn't come as a big surprise but Killers Inc. will no longer be playing Quake3 competitively. We are leaving behind our legacy for greener pastures and changing gears for a different game. I'm not going to disclose at this point which game (duh!) but I think over the next couple of weeks it'll be apparent. Big thanks goes out to everyone that over the years have helped us get to where we are and for those that will be sticking with us through this transition...
